Good Work Deserves a Good Story — That’s What We Did with JoyCorps
The Challenge
The JoyCorps Fellowship is an annual programme for a select group of social enterprise leaders in Asia who are working to solve their region and community’s agrarian, livelihood and sustainability problems. For many of these leaders, it is often a challenge to present their ideas and business models in a manner that is precise and effective while communicating the stories of impact. Common challenges included a lack of presentation experience, stage fright, time constraints, and difficulty incorporating a human touch into their communications.
The Objective
JoyCorps partnered with Comms Ninja to design and deliver a training programme aimed at addressing these challenges. The goal was to equip the 2024 JoyCorps cohort of 7-8 social entrepreneurs with:
Enhanced presentation and communication skills
Confidence to deliver impactful pitches
Tools to build their personal brand and create compelling pitch decks
The Solution
Comms Ninja crafted a phased and interactive training programme, customised to meet the unique needs of JoyCorps' entrepreneurs:
Expert-led Sessions: Facilitated by the Comms Ninja team, these sessions are designed to be interactive with opportunities for peer-sharing, and use of tried-and-tested frameworks:
Personal Branding: An interactive session highlighting the importance of personal branding for startup entrepreneurs and providing actionable frameworks to build their brand.
Impact Storytelling: Training on creating engaging narratives by blending content and design for maximum audience impact
Customised Coaching
Entrepreneurs were paired with pitch mentors from Comms Ninja for personalised one-on-one sessions. They received detailed feedback on their pitch decks - from effectiveness, language and design to feedback on the business model and future plans.
Simulated Pitching
A mock pitch session provided a realistic pitching environment, with external stakeholders - who included the Comms Ninja team, members of JoyCorp and othe well-wishers - offering feedback. Each participant received detailed feedback on their business model, financial date points and presentation and inputs to refine their presentations further.
The Impact
In surveys conducted before and after the sessions, participants talked about key aspects such as the understanding the relevance of personal branding, learning to enhance their online presence, using storytelling to reach more customers and drive marketing and sales, and maintaining consistency.
The training programme delivered by Comms Ninja for JoyCorps culminated in an in-person conference where each of the JoyCorps fellows presented their business to a larger audience of stakeholders, where they had the opportunity to present:
Enhanced presentation Skills
Polished Pitch Decks
Stronger Communication
Public speaking confidence
Through this partnership, Comms Ninja enabled JoyCorps to strengthen their support ecosystem for entrepreneurs, helping them navigate challenges and create meaningful impact through innovative business solutions.
